Best Use Guidelines for Vari Scary Operation

The Vari Scary is an incredibly effective bird pest deterrent. To minimise the disruption to neighbours it is recommended that units are operated in accordance with the National Farmers Union Code of Practice for the use of bird scarers, along with the following hints and tips:

Preferably locate the Vari Scary at least 200 metres from sensitive buildings, including homes, schools and occupied buildings.

The infinitely variable firing pattern of Vari Scary can reduce the impact on neighbours, compared to regular repetitive firing.

Where practical, point the Vari Scary away from buildings. Take account of prevailing wind direction.

Set the Vari Scary timer to avoid coming on before 7.00am when close to occupied buildings, or before 6.00am elsewhere. If bird activity is occurring before this time, use the Eye-Scare as a visual deterent. The timer should be set to fire no later than 10.00pm, or at sunset if earlier.

Use baffles of straw bales or tin sheets to direct sound away from buildings. This technique can also help magnify sound across the field where it will have greatest effect.

Avoid placing the Vari Scary alongside a right of way. Place temporary signs warning riders of a gas gun in use when close to bridleways.

The Robydome electronics used in the Vari Scary are extremely reliable, however it is advisable to place a sign containing contact details at the field gate or beside the unit in case of a problem.

Download a contact form for use with the Vari Scary.
